DNS Monitoring
Know the moment a DNS record stops answering the way it should - whether someone changed it or something broke.
- A, MX, TXT, CNAME and every other record type
- Looked up through resolvers on 4 continents
- Alerts the moment a value changes
Every record, and whether it still holds
- 1
See every record's value
Each record, what it answers with, and whether that's still what it should be.
- 2
Spot a change the minute it lands
A record that changes - by mistake or by someone else - turns red at once.
- 3
Accept the changes you meant
Changed it on purpose? Accept the new value and Mon expects it from then on.
Checked from around the world
DNS answers differ by where you ask, and a change takes time to reach everywhere. Mon asks from around the world, so you see what your users see.
7 locations, 4 continents
North and South America, Europe and Asia, so an outage in one region doesn't go unseen in another.
Placed for you, or by you
Mon spreads each monitor's checks itself, or you choose the locations it checks from.
Addresses you can allowlist
Every location's IP addresses are published in your account, ready for your firewall.
Records, watched properly
A record that's wrong takes a website or email down just as surely as an outage. Mon tells you the moment one is.
Hear about a change first
When a record stops answering what it should, Mon tells you at once - with the value it expected and the one it got.
- By email, in Slack or to your own webhook
- SMS on paid plans
- Again when it's back as it should be
See a change reach the world
Each location asks its own resolver, so you can watch a change spread - and know when it has reached everywhere.
- The answer from every location, side by side
- TTLs shown, so you know how long caches hold on
- A lookup on this page, no sign-up needed
Your whole zone, imported
On Enterprise plans, connect Namecheap, Amazon Route 53 or Azure DNS and Mon reads the zones in the account - each record listed, a monitor one click away.
- Every record in the zone, in one place
- Monitor the ones that matter in one click
- Changes you made on purpose accepted in one click
Every record type
Watch what keeps your services reachable: where your site points, where your mail goes, and what proves who you are.
- A and AAAA for your servers, CNAME for your aliases
- MX for your mail, TXT for SPF, DKIM and DMARC
- NS, SOA, CAA, SRV and PTR too
Add a hundred in one go
Paste a list of names - one per line, or straight from a spreadsheet - choose the record type, and get a monitor for each.
- Each expects what answers first
- Records you already watch are skipped
- URLs are read down to their host
Works with the tools you already use
On Enterprise plans, connect your registrar or DNS host once and Mon imports every domain it finds, picking up new ones as you buy them. On every plan, hear about them where your team already talks.
Namecheap
Every domain registered in your Namecheap account.
Amazon Route 53
Every hosted zone in your AWS account.
Azure DNS
Every DNS zone in your Azure subscription.
Slack
Reminders and alerts posted to the channel of your choice.

Frequently asked questions
Everything about keeping an eye on your DNS.
What is DNS monitoring?
It is a service that looks up your DNS records on a schedule and tells you as soon as one stops answering the way it should - whether someone changed it by mistake, a registrar or DNS host broke it, or a hijacker pointed it somewhere else. A wrong A or MX record takes a website or email down as surely as a server outage does.
Is DNS monitoring free?
Yes. Mon's free plan includes 5 monitors looked up every 5 minutes, and each record you watch uses one. Paid plans start at 10 monitors and look up as often as every minute.
How does Mon check a DNS record?
It looks the name up for the record type you chose, from each of its locations through that location's own resolver, and compares the answer with the records you said it should have. Leave them blank and whatever answers the first time becomes what should answer from then on.
Which record types can Mon watch?
A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SOA, CAA, SRV and PTR, and the DNSSEC and service records - DS, DNSKEY, TLSA, SSHFP, NAPTR and URI - from the monitor form.
What happens when a record changes?
The monitor goes down and you're alerted, with the value it expected and the one it got. If you made the change on purpose, accept it - from the DNS records screen for a record in an imported zone, or by editing the monitor's expected records - and the new value is what's expected from then on.
Can I check whether a DNS change has propagated?
Yes. The lookup at the top of this page asks the resolver at each of Mon's locations, so you can see whether every part of the world has the new value yet - and a monitor keeps checking until it's everywhere.
Can Mon import my DNS zones?
Yes, on Enterprise plans. Connect Namecheap, Amazon Route 53 or Azure DNS and Mon reads the zones in the account, listing each record so you can put a monitor on any of them in one click.
Does DNS monitoring watch my domain's expiry?
No - that's domain expiration monitoring, which reads the registration rather than the records and reminds you before a domain lapses. Use both: a lapsed domain's records stop answering too, but by then it's too late.
Can I add all my records at once?
Yes. Paste a list of names - one per line, or straight from a spreadsheet - choose the record type, and Mon adds a monitor for each, skipping any you already watch.
