Features

More than an expiry date

A domain can be lost in more ways than forgetting to renew it. Mon watches for all of them.

Hear before it lapses

A reminder arrives 7, 14, 30 or 60 days before a domain expires - whichever you chose - wherever your team will see it.

  • By email, in Slack or to your own webhook
  • SMS on paid plans
  • A note when a domain is renewed, too

Catch what renewal emails miss

Expiry is only one way to lose a domain. Mon also tells you when its registrar changes or its status moves - and when a name you're waiting for comes free.

  • Registrar change alerts, the first sign of a transfer you didn't ask for
  • Redemption, pending deletion and suspension
  • Watch domains you don't own, and know the day they drop

Everything WHOIS knows

Each domain's registration, read fresh every day from its registry's WHOIS or RDAP record.

  • Status, registrar and its IANA ID
  • Registered, updated and expiry dates
  • Name servers

Add a hundred in one go

Paste a list - one per line, or straight from a spreadsheet - and get a monitor for each, all with the same reminders and alerts.

  • URLs and www. names are read down to the domain
  • Domains you already watch are skipped
  • Or import from Namecheap, Route 53 and Azure

Every TLD with public WHOIS

.com, .net, .org, .io and many country-code domains, all watched the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Everything about watching your domains' expiry dates.

What is domain expiration monitoring?

It is a service that keeps track of when each of your domains is due for renewal and reminds you before the date, so none of them lapse by accident. Mon also watches for changes that put a domain at risk, such as a move to another registrar.

Is domain expiration monitoring free?

Yes. Mon's free plan includes 5 monitors, and each domain you watch uses one, so you can monitor up to 5 domains for free. Paid plans start at 10 monitors.

How does domain expiration monitoring work?

Once a day, Mon looks each of your domains up in its registry's public WHOIS or RDAP record and reads its expiry date, registrar and status. When a domain comes within the reminder period you chose, you're notified.

How do I set up domain expiration monitoring?

Sign up, then add a WHOIS monitor for each domain - or paste a whole list of them at once - and choose how many days before expiry you want to hear. To import everything automatically on an Enterprise plan, connect Namecheap, Amazon Route 53 or Azure DNS instead.

When will I be reminded?

You choose: 7, 14, 30 or 60 days before a domain expires. Mon can also tell you when a domain is renewed, so you know auto-renew worked.

Why use a domain monitoring service?

Registrar renewal emails are easy to miss, go to whoever registered the domain, and stop when a card on file expires. A lapsed domain takes your website and email down with it, and can be registered by someone else. A monitoring service keeps every domain in one place and warns the people who need to know, wherever the domain is registered.

What is a WHOIS monitor?

A WHOIS monitor is Mon's check for one domain's registration. It reads the domain's public WHOIS or RDAP record every day - its status, registrar, dates and name servers - and alerts you when the domain nears expiry or something about its registration changes.

Which domains can Mon monitor?

Any domain whose registry publishes WHOIS information, which includes .com, .net, .org, .io and many country-code domains.

Can I monitor a domain I don't own?

Yes. Mon watches any domain's registration, not only yours. If it lapses, you're told as its status changes - expired, in redemption, pending deletion - so you know when it may become available to register.

Can I add all my domains at once?

Yes. Paste a list of domains - one per line, or straight from a spreadsheet - and Mon adds a monitor for each, skipping any you already watch. On Enterprise plans, you can instead connect Namecheap, Amazon Route 53 or Azure DNS, and Mon imports every domain it finds there and keeps checking for new ones.

What happens when a domain expires?

Most registrars give you a grace period of up to 45 days to renew at the normal price. After that the domain usually enters a 30-day redemption period, when it can still be recovered for a higher fee. It is then pending deletion for about 5 days, and finally released for anyone to register.
