Teams and roles
Share one account between several people - inviting them, what each role lets them do, and moving between the teams you belong to.
Teams
Everything in Mon belongs to a team: its monitors, contacts, status pages, plan and invoices. When you sign up, you get a team of your own, and you're its Owner. Everyone in a team sees the same monitors and the same alerts, each with the role they were given.
Manage the team under Settings › Team. The Overview tab holds the team's Name and Description, which only the owner can change.
How many people
Other people can join a team on Team and Enterprise plans. The count includes you, and invitations that are still waiting count too.
| Plan | People in the team |
|---|---|
| Free, Solo | Just you |
| Team 200, 250, 300 | 3 |
| Team 400 | 4 |
| Enterprise 500 | 5 |
| Enterprise 1000 and up | 10 |
To make room, remove someone or cancel an invitation that hasn't been answered. See Plans and billing for changing plan.
Inviting someone
- Give the team a name of its own, under Overview - it's in the invitation email, so the person knows who it's from. Mon won't send an invitation from a team still called "Default Team", or from someone who hasn't set their own name.
- On the Invites tab, choose Invite member.
- Enter their Email, choose a Role (Viewer unless you pick another), and choose Send invite.
They're sent an email with a link. Until they answer, the invitation is listed under Invites as Waiting to accept, and Cancel invite withdraws it. An invitation lasts 24 hours. If it runs out, cancel it and send a new one.
Someone who declines three invitations from your team in a month can't be invited again for a while.
Accepting an invitation
The link opens a page showing the team's invitation and the role it comes with.
- With a Mon account already at that address, choose Accept invitation, then log in as usual. The team is added to the ones you belong to; the team you work in by default stays as it was.
- Without an account, enter a Name and Password and choose Accept invitation - or Accept with Google, Accept with Microsoft or Accept with Facebook using the same email address. Your account is made, it's in the team, and you're signed straight in.
Joining adds the person's email address to the team's contacts. Decline invitation turns it down.
Roles
A role is a set of permissions given together. Every team comes with four presets:
| Owner | Administrator | Editor | Viewer | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monitors, contacts, status pages, maintenance windows, DNS records | Change | Change | Change | See |
| Email and SMS logs | See | See | See | See |
| Members, invitations and roles | Change | Change | See | See |
| Billing - plans, payment, invoices | Change | See | See | See |
| Support tickets | Change | Change | Change | Change |
| Access tokens for the API | Change | Change | Change | Change |
The Roles tab lists every role, how many people hold it, and Create role for your own. A custom role sets each permission to None, Read, Write or Full - Write and Full both allow changes - and you can't give a role more than your own role has. A team can have eight roles in all, the four presets included. Presets can't be changed or deleted, and a custom role can only be deleted once nobody holds it.
Changing someone's role, or removing them
On the Members tab, choose a new role from the list beside a person's name. The trash icon removes them: they lose access to the team at once, and their email contact is removed from it. The owner can't be removed, and nobody can be given the Owner role directly.
Handing over ownership
On Overview, the owner can choose Transfer ownership and pick another member. The new owner takes over the say on billing, roles and who is in the team, and you stay on as an Administrator.
Belonging to more than one team
The All teams tab lists every team you're in, with your role and its plan. Mon opens in your default team when you sign in. To work in another one, choose Make default beside it, then sign out and back in.
